How the alt tag check works
4 steps to a complete image audit

2 Step 2
Analyse the images
Our crawler collects each
tag including alt attribute, URL, size and lazy-loading status.

Spot the issues
You see missing alt texts, generic descriptions, broken images and layout-shift risks.
-
4 Step 4
Add alt texts
Write concrete image descriptions for SEO and accessibility – decorative images get alt="".
BFSG & European Accessibility Act 2025
Since 28 June 2025 the Barrier Free Reinforcement Act (BFSG) is in force in Germany. It transposes the European Accessibility Act into national law and obliges B2C providers in e-commerce, banking, telecoms and many service sectors to make their digital offerings accessible.
In practice this means: websites and apps must meet WCAG 2.1 conformance level AA. Alt texts for images are one of the most important mandatory components – they fall under success criterion 1.1.1, the lowest WCAG level A.
Violations carry fines of up to €100,000 per case, prohibition orders and proceedings by market surveillance authorities. On top come cease-and-desist letters and damage claims. An automated alt tag check is no longer optional – it is mandatory.
Spot missing image descriptions with the alt tag checker
With the InspectWP alt tag checker you see in seconds which images on your website are missing alt attributes or use generic alt texts. We parse every tag, check the image URL availability, detect empty alt="" and surface lazy loading issues. The result is a concrete list of images that need fixing for SEO and accessibility – without manually crawling every page.
Image audit for SEO and accessibility
Our crawler analyzes your website like a real visitor and logs every embedded image. We detect missing alt attributes (critical for screen readers), alt texts that are too short or too long, broken image URLs, missing width/height attributes (layout shift) and unoptimized lazy loading. The result is a complete inventory of your image performance – the perfect baseline for better SEO rankings and WCAG compliance.
